Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment. Instead of using traditional appliances like metal braces or retainers, it uses a series of clear aligners made from SmartTrack® to improve the position of your teeth and jaw.

SmartTrack is a durable thermoplastic that’s FDA-approved. It doesn’t contain any toxins, making it safe for those with allergies, as well as pregnant people.

What types of alignment issues can Invisalign correct?

Dr. Jablow uses Invisalign to correct various alignment issues, including:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Overlapping teeth
  • Jaw misalignments
  • Crossbite
  • Overbite
  • Underbite

You might also be a candidate for orthodontic treatment with Invisalign if you have noticeable gaps or spaces between your teeth.

What does Invisalign treatment involve?

Before prescribing Invisalign, Dr. Jablow reviews your oral health history, takes a series of oral X-rays, and conducts an oral exam. If your teeth and jaw aren't properly aligned, Dr. Jablow moves forward with treatment.

To do that, she takes digital scans of your mouth and uploads them to a computer program. Dr. Jablow uses the program to develop a custom orthodontic treatment plan that maps out the movements of your teeth and jaw.

Once she finalizes the plan, Dr. Jablow sends your scans to a laboratory that creates your first pair of Invisalign aligners.

About a week later, you return to the office and try your aligners on. Dr. Jablow makes adjustments as necessary and provides care instructions.

During orthodontic treatment with Invisalign, you visit Dr. Jablow every two or three weeks. At each check-up, you change into a new pair of aligners that place slightly different pressure on your teeth.

How long does treatment with Invisalign take?

The length of time that Invisalign treatment takes depends on several factors, including your commitment to Dr. Jablow’s program and the issues addressed.

Most people finish wearing their aligners in 12-18* months, but it can take longer. To speed up the process, wear your aligners 20-22 hours a day, only removing them to eat or brush and floss.
